Vol. 435 No. 1

Written Answers. - Beaumont (School) Dublin.

Seán Haughey

Question:

186 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education if the provision of a school extension for St. Paul's special school, Beaumont, Dubin 9, to provide prevocational courses for children with autism, could be funded from EC Structural and Cohesion Funds under the National Development Plan 1994-1999.

The provision of an extension at the St. Paul's special school, Beaumont, Dublin 9 is presently under consideration in my Department. Such a project would qualify for grant-aid under the primary schools' capital grants scheme and therefore the question of aid from the EC Structural and Cohesion Funds under the National Development Plan would not arise.

Enda Kenny

Question:

187 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Education if a backdated allowance in respect of a higher diploma in Mental Handicap will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo.

The person in question made application for an allowance for additional qualification earlier this year. Following an examination of the application, arrangements were made for the payment of an allowance which included a retrospective payment to 1 January 1993, which is in accordance with established practice.
