Vol. 435 No. 1

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

52 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the criteria for eligibility for farmers wishing to apply for free milk quotas; if he intends to debar farmers with more than 60 map acres of land from the scheme and if he further intends to apply an off farm income limit on both the farmer and his spouse.

I have recently indicated the way in which I envisage the distribution of some 5.3 million gallons of milk quota, free of charge to small scale milk producers, being operated. In deciding the detailed conditions of the scheme I will specifically target small scale producers who are dependent on milk production and who have demonstrated a commitment to milk production.
