Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

39 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for the Environment if he will grant aid listed buildings in this country.

The National Heritage Council gives financial assistance to certain projects for restoration or repair of heritage properties. It is also open to planning authorities, under section 14 of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, to assist bodies or persons concerned with the preservation of buildings of artistic, architectural or historical importance. In addition, tax reliefs are available in certain circumstances in respect of expenditure on the repair or restoration of such buildings.
