Vol. 435 No. 4

Written Answers. - Equality Proofing.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

57 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the guidelines for equality-proofing which are in use by all Departments; and if he will give an assessment of the way in which equality-proofing to date has worked at Cabinet level.

The Government has decided that the impact on women of any measure being proposed should be taken into account before any final decision is made on the measure.

Individual Ministers are responsible for ensuring that the process is carried out in their Departments.

I ensure that gender-proofing of proposals is carried out at Government. I am satisfied with progress to date.
