Vol. 435 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cornea Donations.

Ivor Callely

Question:

83 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health if the number of eye donations being made to the Irish eye bank are sufficient to meet its demand; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The total number of cornea donations is sufficient to meet the overall demand. However, at times, a suitable cornea may not be available for a particular patient. Unfortunately, this is a feature of all transplant programmes.
