Vol. 435 No. 5

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Noel Ahern

Question:

87 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if, in relation to the higher education grant scheme, she will include courses that are labelled part-time but are, from an individual point of view full-time, with full-time fees and commitment, with particular reference to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11, who following an application submitted by her was refused on the basis that the course is labelled part-time.

Only full-time courses are currently recognised by my Department for the purposes of the third level grants system. I understand from Dublin Corporation, which is the body statutorily entrusted with the administration of the higher education grants scheme in this case, that the person in question has been deemed ineligible for a higher education grant on the basis that family reckonable income exceeded the prescribed income limit.
