Vol. 435 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions Written Answers. - Longwood (Meath) National School.

John Bruton

Question:

114 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to improve the conditions at Longwood national school, County Meath, which has been identified by the INTO as one of the most seriously substandard schools in the country and is overcrowded and damp, with no cloakrooms, no staff rooms, no staff toilets or utility room and with windows which are rotting.

The architectural planning of the new accommodation which it has already been agreed should be provided in this case has been delayed due to difficulties with the site. My Department is in consultation with the school authorities in the matter and it is hoped to resolve these difficulties in the near future so that architectural planning of the project can be resumed.

The project will be considered for inclusion in the capital programme in due course in the light of other commitments and priorities.
