Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - Marketing of Regional Airports.

Pat Cox

Question:

206 Mr. Cox asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the amount of money allocated in 1993 by the Government for the promotion and marketing of regional airports in Ireland, with a breakdown of the total figure by airport; if there is a requirement that the State money, so allocated, has to be or will be matched or supplemented, by additional private funding; if so, the amount of such private funding in the case of each airport; whether any State funding has been provided for the promotion or marketing of the airports managed by Aer Rianta; and whether, by retained profit or direct State funding, the funds, if any, that have been made available to these airports.

I have recently made the following provisional allocations to the six regional airports for the purpose of marketing and promoting these airports:

£

Donegal

150,000

Galway

300,000

Sligo

225,000

Waterford

222,000

Knock

235,000

Kerry

300,000

There is no requirement that grants under the marketing-promotion fund be matched by private funding.
The promotion and marketing of the three State airports is a matter for Aer Rianta as part of their day-to-day management and operation of the airports.
