Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - Giant Hogweed.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

36 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Health the extent to which he has responsibility in the matter of whether giant hogweed should be declared a noxious weed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of whether giant hogweed should be declared a noxious weed is a matter for my colleague the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry.

As I indicated in my reply of 3 June last to questions on this subject by Deputy Bruton, I have proposed a series of measures to the Ministers for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, the Marine, the Environment and the Office of Public Works for monitoring and controlling the spread of the Giant Hogweed. My proposals are still under discussion with the Departments concerned.
