Vol. 435 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tierney Report.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

105 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Health if, in regard to the Tierney report on medical manpower, the responses he has received from those interested parties to which he told Dáil Éireann on 8 July 1993 he would be circulating the report; his response to the suggestions in the report on increasing the number of doctors and job sharing appointments for consultants; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The report to which the Deputy refers was circulated to all those with an interest in the subject of medical manpower and their comments sought by the end of October. While I am disappointed that the number of responses received to-date have been minimal, I am aware that a number of agencies have finalised their response but are required to present the response to their Boards before formally submitting it to my Department.

However, as I reported in the House already, the main purpose of the report is to stimulate discussion and debate and I propose to await receipt of these responses before deciding on any particular course of action.
