Question:

127 Mr. Flanagan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of promotions within his Department to the posts of Executive Officer, Staff Officer and Clerical Officer for each of the years from 1988 to date in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Spring)

The number of promotions in the period in my Department were as follows:

Grade	1988	1989	1990	1991	1992	1993
Executive Officer	0	3	8	5	3	0
Staff Officer	0	3	6	3	0	6
Clerical Officer	1	4	35	4	12	9

These figures include internal promotions and officers appointed from Civil Service Commission panels. All of the posts concerned were filled in accordance with the usual regulations.

There have been no promotions in the Office of the Tánaiste.
