Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Third Level Grants.

Frank Crowley

Question:

181 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Education the reason third level grants are unavailable to pharmaceutical technician students; and the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork has been refused this grant.

The Pharmaceutical Technician's Diploma course in question is not currently an approved course for the purposes of student grants under my Department's student support schemes.

However, this course is currently being assessed to determine whether it satisfies the criteria for eligibility for student grant purposes. I will keep the Deputy informed of developments.

Noel Ahern

Question:

182 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if her Department or any other agency provides assistance towards crèche expenses for a lone parent third level student, living in private rented accommodation.

Maintenance grants paid under my Department's third level student support system are in respect of students' general living expenses. My Department does not provide any specific assistance towards crèche expenses of the type referred to by the Deputy, and I am not aware of any other agency which provides such assistance.
