Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Mayo National Park.

Enda Kenny

Question:

17 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance the position in regard to the provision of a national park in the Nephinbeg area of County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Office of Public Works and Mayo County Council have agreed to commission a planning study to assess how the natural heritage of north west Mayo might best be conserved. The study will also address the potential for establishing a national park in the region.

It is hoped to appoint consultants before the end of the year. The study is likely to take 12 months to complete and will involve widespread consultants with community, farming and conservation organisations as well as other relevant interests.
