Theresa Ahearn

Question:

28 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Finance if he will give the plans of the Office of Public Works in relation to Cahir Abbey, Cahir, County Tipperary; the estimated work to be carried out within the next twelve months; the total financial outlay involved in the project; and when the work will commence.

Work on the conservation of Cahir Abbey commenced in April 1991 and is in progress at present. In the next twelve months the Office of Public Works intends to carry out an archaeological excavation, repair the vaulted cloister buildings and restore the fireplace in the east wall of the tower. General masonry conservation and site presentation will also be carried out.

A total of £86,000 has been spent on the work to date. It is estimated that the total cost of the project will be approximately £150,000. The Office of Public Works expect to complete the work in 1995.
