Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ministerial Functions.

Jim Higgins

Question:

44 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Finance if an order has been made to designate the different functions in relation to wildlife affairs, as assigned to the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht and the Minister of State at the Department of Finance; their respective areas of responsibility; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No such order has been made and the current position is that any statutory functions which arise from the Wildlife and Whale Fisheries Acts which, prior to the appointment of the present Government, were assigned to the Minister for Finance continue to be so assigned. The Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht has been given responsibility for the formulation and development of future policy in relation to these areas. Day-to-day functions in these areas continue to be exercised by the Office of Public Works, in accordance with policy decisions by the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht.
