Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Public Service Pay Determination System.

Ivan Yates

Question:

47 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance the outcome of the negotiations to date on reforming the conciliation and arbitration process relating to special pay claims in the public service; and the way in which the revised scheme will operate relative to the present procedures.

Discussions have been taking place in various areas of the public service on changes to the pay determination system. In the Civil Service the discussions have been between representatives of the official and staff sides of the Civil Service conciliation and arbitration schemes and as a result of these discussions a series of recommended changes to the existing arrangements have emerged.

The recommended changes are now being considered by the Civil Service unions and, if accepted by them, will fall to be finalised under the provisions of the conciliation and arbitration schemes it would be my intention to place copies of any amended schemes in the Library of the House.
