Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Cork Redundancies.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

107 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of redundancies notified to his Department in respect of employees in the area covered by the Mallow Social Welfare office, County Cork, for each of the years from 1988 to 1992.

Statistics of notified redundancies are not available in my Department in respect of the area covered by the Mallow Social Welfare Office as such statistics are recorded on a county basis only. The total numbers of proposed redundancies in County Cork, including Cork city, notified to my Department in the years in question were: 1988, 2,796; 1989, 1,369; 1990, 1,863; 1991, 2,309; 1992, 1,820.

It must be stressed that the figures quoted relate to notifications of proposed redundancies under the Redundancy Payments Acts and not to actual redundancies. They do not, therefore, include certain categories of employees which do not come within the scope of the Redundancy Payments Acts.
