Vol. 436 No. 2

Written Answers. - Back-to-School Schemes.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

15 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Social Welfare if his Department has had discussions with the Department of Education in relation to amalgamating the Department of Education free book scheme with his Department's back to school clothing and footwear scheme; the discussions, if any, he has had to date with interested parties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In the context of a review of the free books scheme in 1992, the question of establishing an eligiblity link between the free book scheme and the back-to-school clothing and footwear scheme operated by my Department was raised. The introduction of such a link would be a matter in the final analysis for the Department of Education.
