Vol. 436 No. 2

Written Answers. - Insurance Costs Awarded by Courts.

Ivor Callely

Question:

80 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the total value of insurance claims awarded by the courts for each of the years from 1982 to 1992; if she will give a breakdown of costs awarded for legal fees for the same period; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The information sought by the Deputy is not available from court records. All court proceedings are entered in the court record under the name of the parties concerned and it is not possible, therefore, to readily identify cases involving insurance claims. With regard to costs awarded by the courts, the position is that details of costs are not in general a matter of court record.
