Vol. 436 No. 2

Written Answers. - Ambulance Service.

Chris Flood

Question:

110 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in the attendance of an ambulance at the scene of a fatal road accident on the Tallaght Bypass Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24 on the night of Sunday 14 November 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have had inquiries made in this matter and I understand that, at the time of the incident in question, the nearest available accident and emergency ambulance was located at Tara Street, as all other accident and emergency ambulances were dealing with other calls. Dublin Fire Brigade Ambulance Control at Tara Street was first alerted regarding this accident at 00.17 hours on Monday, 15 November 1993. An ambulance was dispatched at 00.19 hours and attended the scene of the accident at 00.36 hours. The ambulance subsequently reached St. James's Hospital at 00.48 hours. Given the circumstances, it would appear that there was no undue delay in the activation and response of the ambulance service.
