Vol. 436 No. 4

Written Answers. - Provision of Resource Teacher.

Robert Molloy

Question:

223 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made for the establishment of a special class at the Athenry boys national school, County Galway, to cater for pupils who have been psycologically assessed as having special needs; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that I have just recently approved the appointment of a special resource teacher for the Athenry area. The teacher in question will be based in Athenry boys national school and will also serve Athenry girls national school and Kiltulla national school.

The role of the resource teacher will be to support ordinary teaching staff in dealing with special needs children in the schools in question. My Department will shortly be in touch with the schools in question to make the necessary arrangements.
