Vol. 436 No. 4

Written Answers. - Planning Control.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

20 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for the Environment the steps, if any, that he has taken to extend planning control to developments undertaken by Government and other State authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1993 establishes a framework for the application of planning control to state development; thereby giving effect to the commitment in the Programme for a Partnership Government to bring about greater openness and public involvement in relation to development by Government Departments and the Office of Public Works. Subject to the normal exemptions for minor works and certain limited exceptions provided for in the 1993 Act, development by these bodies will, after a transitional period ending in June 1994, require planning permission.
