Question:11 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment if the Ballincollig bypass, County Cork, is included in the National Development Plan, 1994-1999; and if so, when work will commence on the project.

Cork County Council has submitted outline proposals for a bypass of Ballincollig and, while these have been discussed between officials of my Department and the council, a route has still to be settled. The question of providing the bypass is being considered in the preparation of the Transport Operational Programme under the National Development Plan, 1994-99. In this context, I will have to have regard to the estimated cost of the project, the number of major improvement schemes requiring funding countrywide and the overall funds available.
