Vol. 436 No. 4

Written Answers. - Irish Citizenship Applications.

Enda Kenny

Question:

116 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice when she will be in a position to introduce amending legislation in respect of 4,000 applications which are legitimate in respect of Irish citizenship, which amendment has been awaited now for seven years; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to introduce a short Bill soon which will allow for the registration under section 27 of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1956, of those qualified persons who had applied for registration but whose applications had not been finalised by the deadline of 31 December 1986 provided for in the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1986.
