I am advised by the IDA that between 1987 and 1992, the latest period for which actual figures are available, the number of overseas greenfield projects which located in Ireland and which were still in existence at the end of 1992 was 176. I understand from the Authority that these projects resulted in the creation of 10,523 first time jobs. The IDA define a first time job as any gain in the employment level of a company from the peak employment in the company in the previous five years arising from a specific investment programme agreed with the IDA.
These figures exclude greenfield projects and associated jobs which located in the Shannon Free Zone and in the Financial Services Centre in Dublin. Also excluded are Údarás na Gaeltachta projects for which my colleague the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht has responsibility.
I propose to circulate a Table which gives details by Region and County of the location of the 176 projects referred to.
