Vol. 436 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Lottery Proceeds.

Ivor Callely

Question:

77 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the gross and net proceeds from the national lottery in 1992 and the projected proceeds for 1993; if he will give a breakdown of the costs of running the lottery; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The National Lottery Fund received a surplus of £82 million in 1992 from the operations of the national lottery. I would refer the Deputy to the 1992 annual report of An Post National Lottery Company, copies of which are available in the Library, for further details.

With regard to 1993, it is not the practice to provide projections of the surplus likely to arise from the commercial operations of the National Lottery Company. However, expenditure of approximately £89.363 million has been allocated to national lottery funded spending programmes for 1993 which will be financed from the surplus arising in 1993 and other moneys such as unspent lottery-funded allocations carried forward from previous years. Details of the Departmental allocations of these funds for 1993 are set out in the National Lottery Annex to the "Revised Estimates for Public Services 1993", copies of which are also available in the Library.

Details of the running costs of the national lottery are published in the National Lottery Company's annual reports which are available in the Dáil Library.
