Vol. 436 No. 7

Written Answers. - Organic Agricultural Produce.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

166 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if approved organic bodies under EC Regulation 1092/91 will be paid £100 per livestock inspection before the end of December 1993.

EC Regulation 2092/91 on organic production of agricultural produce only covers crop products and by-products. Therefore, only operators in this sector of organic agriculture are required to be registered with my Department and to be inspected under the regulation. There is no obligation on my Department to make payments for livestock inspections.

The EC Commission are working on a proposal for an organic livestock regulation.
