Vol. 437 No. 1

Written Answers. - Compensation to Potato Growers.

Neil T.C. Blaney

Question:

105 Mr. Blaney asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if, in view of the hardship suffered by those growers with under two acres of ware potatoes as a result of the loss of last year's crop, he will compensate them in like manner to other growers as the cost would be infinitesimal in relation to the overall compensation paid.

The Deputy will appreciate that in the disbursement of public funds, such as compensation to County Donegal potato growers, it is necessary to have appropriate audit or verification procedures. In the case of ware potato growers of less than two acres my Department is not in a position to provide the requisite verification procedures on the losses sustained.
