Vol. 437 No. 2

Written Answers. - Transfer of Prisoner.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

63 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice the circumstances surrounding the movement of a prisoner (details supplied); if the prisoner is now located at an open prison; if she will make a statement on the matter; and if all proper procedures were followed before this prisoner was transferred.

It is not normal practice to comment on individual cases and I do not propose, therefore, to comment on the circumstances of this particular offender.

The Deputy will be aware that operational requirements necessitate that certain transfers take place from one institution to another on a regular basis. I can confirm that the offender is at present in an Open Centre and that normal procedures were followed in the case.
