Vol. 437 No. 4

Written Answers. - Children's Hospital Accommodation.

Michael Bell

Question:

41 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Health if he will direct health boards and hospital authorities that all cot beds for children should be encased with padded barriers and that all steel or solid barriers should be excluded from children's beds; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of making modifications to children's beds and cots is a matter for the health boards and voluntary hospitals in the first instance. My Department has no direct involvement in operational matters of this kind but I can assure the Deputy that the safety and security of the children are of paramount importance in relation to determining the specifications and standards used for these items.

I am not aware of any problems associated with the present arrangements but if the Deputy has a particular case in mind I can arrange to have it investigated by the relevant health agency.
