Question:

579 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Education the boards, committees, companies or other bodies under the auspices of her Department; and, in each case, whether the Chairperson is male or female, the number of other members of the boards who are female and male and whether their Chief Executive or holder of an equivalent position is male or female.

Regional Technical Colleges and Dublin Institute of Technology.
The term of office of the ordinary members (17 in the regional technical colleges and 18 in the Dublin Institute of Technology) of the first Governing Bodies expired on 31 December, 1993. Recommendations of ordinary members to incoming Governing Bodies are being submitted at present by the relevant Vocational Education Committees pursuant to the relevant sections of the Acts.
The Acts also provide that "the Minister shall have regard to the extent to which each sex is represented and shall ensure an appropriate gender balance as determined by the Minister from time to time".
National University of Ireland and Constituent Colleges UCD, UCC and UCG.
The Minister for Education has no function in relation to the appointment of the Chancellor of the NUI nor in the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor who is the Chief Executive. The information given under "other Members" relates only to Government nominees. In relation to the Constituent Colleges of the NUI, UCD, UCC and UCG the Minister has no function in the appointing of the President and Chief Executive.
Council of the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
Only the Chairman is appointed by the Minister. The Registrar of the DIAS acts as Chief Executive to the Council of the DIAS and the three constituent scools.

The Minister for Education has no function in relation to the appointment of the chairperson.
