Vol. 438 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Investigation.

Pat Upton

Question:

21 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice the up-to-date position in relation to allegations of sexual abuse against a person (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In my response to a parliamentary question tabled by the Deputy on 14 December 1993 — Official Report, volume 437, columns 303-04, I stated that this matter had been the subject of ongoing Garda investigation and a file had been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for direction.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that directions have been received from the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to that particular investigation and that arising out of this a person has been charged before the courts. As the Deputy will appreciate it would, therefore, be inappropriate for me to comment any further on this case. I am also informed that the DPP has directed that no further action should be taken in relation to a second person arising from the same investigation.
