154 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction an additional teaching post at a school (details supplied) in County Cavan in view of the fact that the pupil enrolment is adequate to warrant such an appointment; and if she will approve the provision of an extra classroom accommodation at this school.
The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year.
The enrolment in the school referred to by the Deputy on 30 September 1993 was 102. An inspector from my Department will visit the school to check this enrolment. If the enrolment is valid, sanction for the appointment of an additional permanent assistant will be given with effect from 1 September 1994.
The question of extra accommodation at this school is currently being investigated by my Department, and a decision on the matter will be conveyed to the chairman in due course.
