Vol. 438 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers.

We now come to deal with priority questions. As Members will be aware, today is the first occasion that Question Time will be taken under the new sessional order passed by this House this morning. Under the new order the last priority question, if not reached, will be taken as the first ordinary question for oral answer. If that happens supplementary questions may be asked by other Members in addition to the Member who tabled that priority question. While this new facility is helpful it does not ensure that all priority questions will be replied to. Therefore, I earnestly request all Deputies concerned to be conscious of the limited time available for priority questions and to deal with the five priority questions before us in the 20 minute period allowed. I hope the position is clear. This is a worthwhile improvement, but does not guarantee that we will dispose of all the priority questions before us.

It is a step in the right direction.
