Vol. 438 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Health and Safety Authority Report.

Robert Molloy

Question:

19 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment when the Health and Safety Authority report on the Hickson fire at Ringaskiddy, County Cork, in August 1993 will be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A file on the incident in question has been prepared by the Health and Safety Authority and submitted to the Chief State Solicitor's Office with a view to prosecution. The Deputy will appreciate that it would be inappropriate for me to comment further on this case in the circumstances.

I thank the Minister of State for that reply. In view of the high degree of public interest in this issue and the deep concern in the workforce, 220 persons in all, whom I have already described as being family breadwinners concerned about the future of their jobs, it is of the utmost importance that this matter be expedited and that any reasonable recommendation made be put into place as quickly as possible to ensure the future of that industry in the Cork area.

I take the Deputy's point.
