Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Comprehensive-Media Services.

Jim Higgins

Question:

263 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the names and communications or media companies used by him or his Department in 1993; the nature of the services provided; and the cost of the services.

My Department used the services of Drury Communications Ltd., in 1993 in a media advisory capacity to whom an amount of £20,108.30 was paid.

In addition, the Meteorological Service had in 1993, and continues to have, an association with Independent Information Services Ltd. (IIS) who act as service providers in the provision of premium rate telephone weather forecasts. IIS are mainly responsible for promoting/advertising the service, while the Meteorological Service provides the forecast information in the form of voice recordings. The association between IIS and the Meteorological Service is on a revenue-sharing basis and there are no costs to the Exchequer in respect of it.
