Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Resource and Unemployment Centres.

Austin Deasy

Question:

53 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will expand the role of the resource centres for the unemployed to include personnel trained in instigating placement for the unemployed.

There are many resource and unemployment centres in operation throughout the country. They are independent local agencies which set their own objectives and activities.

Assistance for some of these centres is provided through my Department via FAS. In particular FAS has an agreement with ICTU in respect of its centres for the unemployed.

Expansion of the role of the centres would be a matter for the centres themselves.
