Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Refusal of Grant.

Robert Molloy

Question:

103 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason he has refused to make a grant available to the Galway Cheshire Home Committee under the scheme of grants to voluntary bodies.

In 1993 the Government allocated £750,000 for the scheme of grants to voluntary bodies. This scheme provides grants to help voluntary organisations working with disadvantaged groups or in disadvantaged areas and grants are generally for "once-off" projects. The number of applications received was in the region of 800 and I am sure the Deputy will appreciate that with such a large number of applications for assistance it was only possible to fund a limited number.

The 1994 scheme was recently advertised in the national papers. I have arranged for information on the scheme, together with an application form, to be issued to the organisation in question.
