Vol. 438 No. 5

Written Answers. - Local Authority Funding Review.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

75 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for the Environment if, in regard to his address on 28 January 1994 to the General Council of County Councils, he will give the terms of the proposed review of funding of local authorities; when the review is likely to be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My address to the General Council of County Councils seminar on 28 January did not advert to this matter. There are no proposals to change the situation under which a range of Exchequer grants, combined with local income sources, form the basis of local authority funding. The detailed arrangements are reviewed from time to time and may be subject to alteration having regard to prevailing budgetary circumstances and other relevant factors.
