Vol. 438 No. 5

Written Answers. - Darndale (Dublin) Industrial Development Company.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

122 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will provide funding for the Darndale Industrial Development Company from the scheme of voluntary and community grants.

My Department made available a grant of £40,000 to the Darndale Industrial Development Company in December 1993 to implement an employment initiative in conjunction with the Flax Trust. The grant was one of a number of special grants to voluntary community groups funded from end of year savings made available in my Department.

It is open to the organisation to apply under the 1994 Scheme of Grants to Voluntary Organisations, which was advertised in the National newspapers recently. This scheme provides grants to help voluntary organisations working with disadvantaged groups or in disadvantaged areas and grants are generally for "once-off" projects. I have arranged for information on the scheme, together with an application form, to be issued to the organisation in question.
