Vol. 438 No. 7

Written Answers. - Television Reception.

Phil Hogan

Question:

222 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the action, if any, he proposes to take to provide RTÉ 1 and Network 2 reception for the residents of Carrickmourne, Thomastown, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This is a matter for RTE, who are aware of difficulties in obtaining satisfactory reception of its television services in this area. The problem is related to the local terrain which shields the area from the main RTE transmitter at Mount Leinster. In October 1991 a transposer was provided at Inistioge which now provides service to all but a small number of homes in the Carrickmourne area.

RTE report that they are investigating possible solutions to the problem at present. If a suitable solution is identified RTE hope that the necessary resources will be available to implement it by the end of the year.
