Some £240 million has been earmarked in the Government's National Development Plan 1994-1997 for investment in areas which come under the aegis of my Department, including the arts and cultural infrastructure, the Gaeltacht, heritage and film as follows:

While the funds will be drawn from a number of operational programmes, the decisions in relation to the breakdown of the allocation will be made by me in due course.
The Deputies will be aware that discussions in relation to the National Development Plan 1994-1999 are taking place at EU level at present and, pending the outcome of those discussions, I do not believe that it would be appropriate at this stage to elaborate on the criteria I will adopt in relation to the allocation of the funds.
