Vol. 439 No. 3

Written Answers. - Education Grant.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

134 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education the position regarding an application by a person (details supplied) in County Cork for a higher education grant which was refused and appealed through her Department; and if her attention has been drawn to the fact that documentation supporting the application for re-examination was submitted and that the applicant gave up his position of employment to return to college to do his masters on the grounds that he would qualify for grant aid.

The student in question applied to be assessed as an independent mature student under the 1993 grants scheme. He was deemed ineligible because he was not entering third level for the first time in 1993 or re-entering as a mature student after a break of at least 12 months.
