Question:

144 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education the percentage of leaving certificate students taking music as an examination subject; and the percentage of these who are studying music privately rather than in the schools they attend.

In 1993, 2 per cent of the leaving certificate candidature took music in the examination.

I am not in a position to say what percentage of these candidates studied music privately as this information is not available in my Department.
