Vol. 439 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cancer Incidence Analysis.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

153 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health if the regional analysis of the incidence of cancer in the Cork and Kerry area of the National Cancer Registry Board has been completed; and if it will be published in the near future.

Data comparing cancer rates at county level between Cork and Kerry were published in the 11th annual report of the southern tumour registry which covered the period 1987-1990. Work comparing cancer rates at district electoral division level is ongoing and it is hoped to complete it by early summer.

This detailed regional analysis is part of a larger project being carried out at University College Cork on the data collected by the National Cancer Registry Board's predecessor, the southern tumour registry. The National Cancer Registry Board is providing financial support for this project. Other areas of analysis in the project include incidence rates, survival analysis, and the implications of a cancer registry for health care services.
