Vol. 439 No. 4

Written Answers. - Family Size.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

164 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the economic benefit to the State and to family health of the decreased family size since the Irish Family Planning Association was established; and if he will consider a subvention for medical card holders who avail of services from the Irish Family Planning Association.

Under the Health (Family Planning) (Amendment) Act, 1992, health boards are responsible for the provision of family planning services. These services may be made available either wholly or partly through organisations such as the Irish Family Planning Association. Future policy in relation to the provision of a comprehensive family planning service will be addressed in the health strategy document, which will be published in the coming months.
