Question:112 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice the current position regarding the small claims courts.

Following the successful operation of the small claims procedure pilot scheme in the District Court areas of Cork city, Dublin Metropolitan District and Sligo, I extended the availability of the procedure to include claims in respect of the non-return of rent deposits and minor damage to privately-owned property.
In addition, I have given a commitment to increase the existing monetary limit of £500 on claims by instalments to £1,000 over a five year period commencing in 1995.
