Vol. 439 No. 4

Written Answers. - Youghal (Cork) Garda Manpower.

Paul Bradford

Question:

116 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Justice if she will give an assurance that Youghal Garda Station, County Cork will remain fully open on a 24 hour basis as a town with a population of almost 7,000 people which enjoys an influx of tourists during the year needs a fully operational Garda station.

The Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed policing arrangements for individual areas, inform me that the divisional officer for the Cork East Division is currently reviewing the deployment of Garda manpower and the opening hours of all stations in the division with a view to ensuring that the best possible policing service is provided to the public through the optimum use of existing resources. The implications of this review for the Garda communications system are also being addressed.

The Deputy's concern in the matter has been brought to the attention of the Garda authorities.
