Vol. 439 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tourism Statistics.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

71 Mr. Deenihan asked the Taoiseach the average amount spent per tourist for each EU country, including Ireland.

The latest available data published by the Statistical Office of the EU (EUROSTAT) relates mainly to the year 1991 and is given in the following table. The figures for Ireland relate to overseas visits only.

The figures for the different countries may not be fully comparable. Furthermore, different sources may be used by some countries for their estimates of visitors and their expenditure. Average expenditures, therefore, cannot be reliably derived.
