Vol. 439 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

38 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Finance whether national lottery funds are available for local amenity grants to be distributed at the discretion of local authorities.

No. The Department of the Environment gave notice through the local authorities that grants under the former amenityrecreational facilities grants scheme should be claimed before the end of 1993 as no provision would be made for payments under the scheme in 1994. Any other questions on these amenity grants would be a matter for my colleague, the Minister for the Environment.

I would add, however, that national lottery funds amounting to £3.540 million have been allocated in 1994 for three Department of the Environment programmes which will be channelled through local authorities. These relate to the local authority library service, the provision and renovation of swimming pools, and the provision of communal facilities in voluntary housing schemes.
